Day 10

Monday 27th July

Torshavn, The Faroe Isles

Kris Storey

Our final day in the Faroes was upon us, which was a forlorn feeling as we had grown to really enjoy this hidden gem in the North Atlantic (despite the rain), but our onward journey awaited. With the forecasted offshore conditions against us once again, we made the call to reposition ourselves on the West side of the islands in a small, picturesque marina called Vestmanna. Before slipping from Torshavn, it appeared we had all independently decided to supply our fellow crew members with cinnamon buns from the local café, so we proceeded unknowingly to clean them out of their baked goods stock, meaning we each had about 6 buns to eat! Not a bad problem to have.

Slipping from Torshavn, we refuelled and headed out under sail at around 7kts, rounding the Southern headland and turning North towards Vestmanna. We had a few hours in port whilst we awaited the arrival of our crew change, so we used this time to square some final admin (mainly fitting the upper deck disco lights!) and cook some ‘emergency scran’ for anticipated rough seas ahead. Needless to say, when the boat is rocking about at sea there is little appetite for dicing onions and peppers, so pre-cooked scran becomes essential.

Crew change complete, we were sad to see Cormac go both because we had grown to get to know him really well, but also because he is ‘Mr fix it’ so there was slight trepidation as to whether we could manage any faults ahead. He did however relieve us of about 20 Realmeal bars which each way circa 1kg. Nevertheless, crew change complete, we slipped from Vestmanna around 2130 and headed for Iceland
