Day 3

Monday 20th July

Passage to Shetland

Charley Marr

Well… let me tell you, after the relentless conditions on day 2, waking up on Day 3 to a much calmer sea was a huge blessing! The difference in everyone’s morale was noticeable straight away. With the waves at ease, we were finally able to get back into some sort of routine and carry out daily jobs.

One of the highlights of the morning was being woken up by Tony at 0900 to some Chilli con Carne, as yesterday eating was the last thing on our minds. So, we found ourselves sitting on top deck scranning and spinning dits with Kris saying he was in that much clip he brushed his teeth lying down. From the chaos yesterday, a proper hot meal, nobody was complaining.

Throughout the day we continued making steady progress towards the Shetland islands, maintaining a speed of around 5-6 Kts. The calmer conditions gave everyone the opportunity to recover from day 2.
Although we still had 90 miles ahead of us, Day 3 reminded us how quickly conditions can change on the water. It was a welcoming chance to recover and enjoy working together as a crew and get ready to arrive in the Shetlands at around 0200 on the following day.

One day we were feeding the fish the next day we were feeding ourselves, proof that morale can change as quickly as the weather.
