Day 38

Somewhat sleep deprived due to Tony getting up for a pee about 14 times in the night and then breaking his sleeping bag zip and grunting like a pirate until he fixed it. Despite this we speedily collapsed camp and set off for a ten-hour day. The -14 degree temperature although very unpleasant on the fingers and toes does create great conditions for pulling pulks and meant we made great time and also meant we didn’t have to rotate people through breaking trail which can be quite physically demanding, especially whilst trying to navigate. This also means we can ski next to one another and can actually have a conversation which is great for group morale as opposed to just staring at the person in front for 50mins at a time.

After a few hours the sun came out, although the temperature was still very cold and reflective of now being at nearly 2600m. Despite the abundance of sunshine, our batteries were too cold to be charged effectively by our solar chargers.

We managed to combine a lunch stop so Josh could do an interview with BFBS via our Starlink and explain in detail the medical research we’re conducting.

Now firmly into routine, establishing camp takes less time each evening and the variety of designs seen when constructing our toilet is quite impressive, although unlikely to see them on Changing Rooms anytime soon.
