Day 5

Wednesday 22nd July

Passage to The Faroe Isles

Kris Storey

Another early slip (only because the Shetland cruise ship was due in) and we were on our way to the Faroe Islands. There was just enough time for the harbour staff to tell us gladly that “we would like the Faroes, they eat puffins there”…..great news.

We began our pootling meander through the Shetland Isles, generally heading North. With little wind inshore OR offshore, a day of motoring lay ahead over calm waters, taking turns at the helm in our day watch routine. As there was little going on, we found other ways to pass the time. We worked out that to cover a full mile on the boat would require 66 laps of the upper deck, a feat we are yet to test. Magnetic battleships also got it’s first run out and was an instant hit; thankfully the mighty Fleet of the Royal Navy (Kris) lived up to it’s historic reputation, demolishing the British Army (Charley) 2 -0 after a meek and disappointing display. Charley did however admit to never having played battleships which was instantly demoralizing for the old and bold amongst us.

We enjoyed a delicious curry for dinner, again thankful that the calm seas allowed us to get down below and cook a proper meal. Hopeful for more calm, stress free days ahead.
