Day 6

Thursday 23rd July

Passage to The Faroe Isles

Charley Marr

The sea yet again had no intention of giving us an easy ride, with another day of big swell and relentless waves battering the boat. Any hopes of getting some decent sleep were not to be seen. Running on a four hours on four hours off watch routine was easy in theory but brutal in reality, leaving everyone absolutely hanging by the time they came off watch.

To make our lives harder, the engine decided not to start, meaning we were relying on the wind alone, making painfully slow progress towards the Faroes. Every attempt to get it going ended in disappointment, but fair play to Cormac he was getting stuck in with it below deck and managed to get it going after a few tries.

Despite being absolutely shattered, the morale was still there at times, back to eating Haribo’s and real meal bars was the way forward.

The outline of the Faroe Islands slowly appeared, this gave us a much needed morale boost. Land was finally in sight, even if it felt like we were crawling our way towards it.
