Day 8

Saturday 25th July

Torshavn, The Faroe Isles

Kris Storey

Saturday was a day of admin, and gave us a great opportunity to get some much required maintenance done on the boat. ‘Us’ in this instance largely refers to Cormac and his exceptional engineering ability to fix seemingly everything! The rest of us lingered in a supervisory capacity, offering token assistance, hoping the answer would be no. After a delicious local breakfast, ‘we’ managed to service the engine and change the oil, unblock the heads (again) and fix the fore-cabin door.

Shamedly, I had managed to fall into the door during a period of rough seas whilst trying to retrieve some kit, and take it completely off its hinges. Hence this is now lovingly referred to as Hulk’s door, something I secretly take quiet pride in now it has been repaired.

It has also been a day of ongoing deliberation as we decide how to proceed from the Faroe Islands to our destination, Reykjavik. With various factors at play (weather conditions, and onward travel plans) there is much to discuss, and the plan has pinballed between at one stage, me, Tony and Charley taking a ferry across to Iceland with circa 200kg of personal kit, now back to our original plan of making it to Reykjavik with a potential stop along the Iceland South coast. Hence, the decision is pending ……watch this space.

The other day’s entertainment; me and Charley went to the gym which was seemingly inside a sauna!! And with much amusement, we watched Cormac, a fully grown adult qualified to pilot a Navy submarine, struggle to cook spaghetti…..the mind boggles.
